FDM Materials: Filament and Build Orientation
FDM material selection couples a thermoplastic feedstock to a particular printing process. Material reference.
Filament and Build Orientation
Compare PLA, ABS, PETG, nylon and TPU only after defining whether the part is a visual model, rigid fixture or flexible component. Printed performance cannot be taken directly from an injection-moulded resin table. Geometry, layer direction, walls and infill belong in the comparison.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Specify the filament manufacturer and grade, printer, orientation and key build settings. Define the actual load direction, tolerances and finishing. Approve a representative printed part and preserve the tested process when moving to production or comparing a different material.
