TPE: Identifying the Elastomer Family
TPE means thermoplastic elastomer and covers more than one material family. TPU is one specific family within that broader category. Material reference.
Identifying the Elastomer Family
For a grip or flexible housing, identify the actual polymer and grade before comparing hardness or cost. A generic TPE callout cannot establish bonding to a rigid substrate, chemical compatibility or recovery after repeated compression.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Request the supplier's full grade, polymer family, hardness and processing route. Define the mating substrate, wall geometry and service environment. Approve a finished sample for fit, adhesion where relevant and repeated-use response, and require review before changing the formulation under the same TPE label.
