SUS416: Machinability and Final Heat Treatment
SUS416 is a free-machining martensitic stainless grade. Material reference.
Machinability and Final Heat Treatment
For a turned shaft, investigate whether machining productivity is compatible with the required joining, toughness and corrosion behaviour. A substitution from SUS410 should address those requirements explicitly rather than relying on the similarity of the grade numbers.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Ask for stock condition, chemistry traceability and the complete final treatment callout. Put key fits and straightness checks after hardening and finishing. Identify any weld operation before material approval, and define the surface condition and inspection required at seal tracks, threads and load transitions.
