S7 Tool Steel: Impact Tools and Edge Support
S7 is a shock-resisting tool-steel designation. Material reference.
Impact Tools and Edge Support
For a punch that chips before it wears out, review alignment, edge support and clearance before requesting a material upgrade. Compare a trial S7 tool with the current tool using the same work material, stroke and acceptance criterion; a higher price does not establish a longer useful life.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Specify the final hardness, heat-treatment route and locations for crack inspection. Give the supplier the impact direction and minimum edge sections. Record whether trial failures are chipping, mushrooming or wear, and measure dimensions after final grinding rather than accepting the heat-treated blank alone.

Reference and scope
ASTM: steel specifications by product and application provides material or specification background. The checks above are purchasing guidance; final acceptance values must come from the agreed grade, product specification and condition.
Send a drawing and material requirements for review. Include quantity, critical dimensions and the inspection evidence required with delivery.
