O1 Tool Steel: Oil-Hardening Tooling
O1 is an oil-hardening cold-work tool steel; Uddeholm Arne is a manufacturer example in this class. Material reference.
Oil-Hardening Tooling
For a short-run punch or gauge, compare the complete machining and heat-treatment route with buying a pre-hardened alternative. Give dimensional stability an explicit acceptance criterion instead of assuming the final hardness target will protect precision fits.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Quote annealed stock separately from a finished hardened tool. Include grinding allowance, datum surfaces and the permitted size change after treatment. Require the actual stock supplier's treatment recommendation and inspect the finished edge and fit; do not apply a brochure cycle blindly to a different section.
