Metal Core PCB: Thermal Path and Electrical Isolation

A metal-core PCB combines a metal substrate with dielectric and circuit layers. Base-metal conductivity alone does not describe the complete thermal path. Material reference.

Thermal Path and Electrical Isolation

For a power or lighting board, compare dielectric thickness, thermal performance, isolation and interfaces with the actual heat source. Decide whether aluminium or copper is justified by the full design rather than only a material conductivity ranking.

Manufacturing and acceptance checks

Specify the complete substrate construction, dielectric product, copper circuit weight and mechanical interfaces. Define operating power, insulation requirements and the thermal test setup. Validate the assembled thermal path, including interfaces to the heat sink, before approving a substrate substitution.

Reference and scope

Henkel: insulated metal substrates in thermal assemblies provides material or specification background. The checks above are purchasing guidance; final acceptance values must come from the agreed grade, product specification and condition.
