Magnesium: Choosing a Product Form
Magnesium-alloy selection requires a distinction between wrought stock and casting alloys. The family name alone does not define a component's properties. Material reference.
Choosing a Product Form
Start with the required geometry and production volume: a machined plate, an extrusion, a forging and a die casting are different sourcing questions. Compare AZ31B, AZ61A, AZ80A and ZK60A only in the product forms actually offered.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Give the mass target, stiffness requirement, environment and mating metals. Request a manufacturing and protection plan with a full alloy designation. Agree the inspection after coating or joining, and retain the supplier's handling requirements rather than applying a process intended for aluminium without review.
