For a lightweight cover or machined part, distinguish sheet, extrusion and billet supply before comparing properties. A cast-billet datasheet does not establish the finished sheet condition. Review stiffness, joining and surface protection alongside the mass target.

Manufacturing and acceptance checks

Specify the product standard, delivered condition and stock form. Identify contact with other metals, required coating and exposed surfaces. Ask the fabricator for a process plan appropriate to magnesium, including chip handling, and inspect final dimensions and coating coverage on a representative part.
