Duplex 2205: Welded Parts and Corrosion Review
2205 is a duplex stainless-steel designation. Material reference.
Welded Parts and Corrosion Review
For a welded part, compare the corrosion environment and fabrication route with those of an austenitic alternative. Do not approve a substitution to 316 solely from a room-temperature strength comparison. Confirm the exact UNS designation and product specification offered under the commercial 2205 label.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Provide chloride exposure, temperature, geometry and welding details. Agree procedure qualification and any required phase-balance, corrosion or impact testing. Define the condition of the surface after fabrication, including cleaning and removal of heat tint, and retain traceability from mill heat through welding and final inspection.
