17-4PH Stainless Steel: Aging Condition and Precision Fits
17-4 PH is a precipitation-hardening stainless steel. Material reference.
Aging Condition and Precision Fits
Specify the aging condition rather than ordering a part to a strength number copied from an unspecified datasheet. A precision shaft may be machined before or after aging; agree the sequence around the fit, distortion allowance and machining cost. Do not treat all aging conditions as interchangeable.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Request the full product specification, starting condition and final heat-treatment record. Place hardness and dimensional checks after the last relevant treatment. If toughness or corrosion performance is critical, specify the applicable acceptance tests and environment instead of accepting a generic stainless-steel description.
