1095 Steel: Wear Edges and Tempered Strip
1095 is a high-carbon steel; its useful hardness and toughness depend on the finished heat treatment. Material reference.
Wear Edges and Tempered Strip
For a blade or wear strip, define whether edge wear, chipping or permanent bending is the limiting failure. A high hardness target may not solve an impact problem. Compare a thinner edge with a tougher geometry before specifying the hardest available condition.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Ask for the supplied condition and the heat-treatment sequence through final sharpening or grinding. Put edge radius, acceptable distortion and hardness test position on the drawing. Where cracking would be consequential, agree an appropriate crack inspection and sample service trial rather than relying on grade identity alone.
