Metals: Comparing Manufacturing Routes
Metal selection connects an alloy family to a product form and a finished condition. A ranking by one generic strength or density figure is not enough to choose a part material. Material reference.
Comparing Manufacturing Routes
Begin with the geometry and environment, then compare a steel, aluminium, titanium or copper-alloy route that can actually be supplied. Separate electrical or thermal needs from structural needs. Evaluate joining, finishing and inspection with the material choice rather than after it.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Prepare a shortlist with an explicit grade, condition and process for each option. Request comparable quotations covering the same drawing and acceptance tests. Record the reason for selecting an option and require approval before the production supplier changes the material or its final condition.
