H13 Tool Steel: Thermal Cycling and Die Inserts
H13 is a hot-work tool-steel grade. Its purchase condition and final treatment must be matched to the die geometry. Material reference.
Thermal Cycling and Die Inserts
For die inserts, investigate whether damage originates from thermal fatigue, washout or mechanical overload. Merely raising hardness can leave the underlying cooling or stress-concentration problem unresolved. Use the failed insert and its process history to frame a comparison with H11.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Include melting-quality requirements if the drawing specifies them, plus the final hardness and test locations. Agree rough machining, heat treatment and finishing stages. State whether nitriding or another surface process is required and inspect the tool in that final condition before the production trial.
