H11 Tool Steel: Hot-Work Tool Qualification
H11 belongs to the hot-work tool-steel family. Material reference.
Hot-Work Tool Qualification
For a heated die or insert, map the thermal cycle and mechanical loading before choosing between H11 and H13. The tool's surface temperature, cooling arrangement and maintenance history are more useful than an isolated room-temperature strength value when investigating early failure.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Supply the operating temperature range, heating and cooling cycle, section size and surface treatment. Ask for a supplier-approved heat-treatment procedure and define crack and hardness inspection locations. Approve a trial insert using a stated end-of-life condition such as cracking, erosion or loss of profile.
