Aluminum 5083: Welded Plate and Marine Requirements
5083 is an aluminium-magnesium alloy used in marine product ranges. Material reference.
Welded Plate and Marine Requirements
For a welded plate structure, specify the application and product requirements instead of treating marine aluminium as a universal approval. Temper, thickness, weld design and inspection all belong in the comparison with 5086 or 5754.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Request the complete plate specification, temper and mill certificate. Define weld inspection, final distortion and any corrosion-related acceptance required by the design. Identify load paths and test directions, and agree whether machining of mounting surfaces occurs before or after the weldment reaches its final condition.
