SUS440A: Hardened Edges and Grade Choice
SUS440A is a martensitic stainless grade distinct from 440B and 440C. Material reference.
Hardened Edges and Grade Choice
For a hardened edge, identify the required balance between wear and resistance to damage in the actual use. Do not treat the 440 series as one material or select a suffix by its perceived rank. Geometry and the final treatment remain part of the decision.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
State the exact suffix, delivered condition and final hardness. Specify edge radius, grinding allowance and crack inspection where required. Compare a SUS420 alternative using the same service test and acceptance criterion, and retain the heat-treatment record with the finished-part inspection results.
