SUS347: Stabilized Grade Substitution
SUS347 is a niobium-stabilized austenitic stainless grade. Material reference.
Stabilized Grade Substitution
When a drawing allows a choice between stabilized grades, examine the product specification and joining requirements before accepting stock availability as the deciding factor. For a hot welded component, the relevant comparison includes service time and fabrication history, not simply room-temperature tensile strength.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Request the complete grade designation, mill certificate and weld procedure requirements. Define any high-temperature property evidence needed by the design. Agree dimensional inspection after joining and record whether a proposed SUS321 alternative has been accepted for the particular assembly and service condition.
