40Cr Steel: Quenched and Tempered Shafts
40Cr is a chromium-alloy structural-steel designation. Material reference.
Quenched and Tempered Shafts
For a turned shaft, compare the actual supplied condition with any proposed heat treatment after machining. Purchasing quenched-and-tempered bar and specifying a second treatment later can add unnecessary distortion unless the component needs a different final response.
Manufacturing and acceptance checks
Give the controlling section diameter, final hardness range and test location. Ask whether rough machining precedes treatment and when straightness will be inspected. Keep keyway roots and bearing fits visible in the review; a certificate for the starting bar does not establish the properties of a re-treated finished shaft.

Reference and scope
Baosteel: structural and spring steel grade families provides material or specification background. The checks above are purchasing guidance; final acceptance values must come from the agreed grade, product specification and condition.
Send a drawing and material requirements for review. Include quantity, critical dimensions and the inspection evidence required with delivery.
